You can activate Personal Mobile Hotspot on your Verizon line by making sure your mobile device is turned on. After that, you have to go to Settings.
From Settings, navigate to Cellular (iPhone) and Connections (Android).
On the iPhone, check if the cellular network is turned on; On an Android device,
Navigate to Mobile data usage and check if the data is connected.
After activating it, go back to Settings and click Enable Personal Mobile Hotspot (iPhone) and Mobile Hotspot & Tethering for Android.
What is Mobile Hotspot and how does it work?
Small and lightweight, an access point is generally no bigger than an Altoids box, but you can put it online anywhere you can make mobile calls.
Like a mobile phone, but without the ability to make or receive voice calls, a mobile hotspot connects your 4G or 5G mobile data network to the Internet and then broadcasts a new secure Wi-Fi network to you and your friends.
It can typically run for hours on battery power and is as secure as your router at home, often with a Wi-Fi Protect Access-3 (WPA-3) level encryption option. Plus, all your data on the mobile data network is further encrypted, making everything as secure as possible.

How does this work
A blue bar appears at the top of the screen when a device is connected to an access point, as does a green bar that shows active calls when you’re not in the Phone app. Touch the bar to open the Personal Hotspot settings screen. The bar shows the number of connected devices, including USB and Bluetooth.
If a device is not connected to a network method, after 90 seconds, the Wi-Fi radio will be turned off and the access point will no longer broadcast its availability to the Wi-Fi device.
Simply unlock the phone and navigate to the Hotspot settings screen to activate it. In testing, I sometimes had to move the access point switch to the OFF position and back to the ON position to reactivate it.
Because Personal Hotspot appears on any Wi-Fi connection, such as a computer or other device, you can do any work and use any service. This includes FaceTime on an iPhone or iPod touch streamed through the access point.
Performance seems to be more or less the same, whether you’re using apps on the iPhone or connected to the phone as a conduit for the Internet. In Seattle, at two indoor locations, I was unable to exceed 500 kbps, while my AT&T iPhone was over 1 Mbps. Your mileage will vary greatly, although the AT&T network will usually be faster in areas with good coverage. All businesses use Verizon Mobile due to the current generation of broadband technology.
Points, Is that how it works:
- Make sure the Verizon Wireless Mobile Hotspot feature is enabled in the Settings or Manage Connections area.
- Open the application tray and select Mobile Hotspot.
- Touch the Mobile Hotspot check box.
- After a few moments, an icon should appear in the notification panel indicating the availability of your new access point.
- Computers and other connected devices can now connect to this access point via Wi-Fi and share your smartphone’s data connection.

Enable Instant Hotspot using Continuity
With Instant Hotspot, your iPhone (or cellular iPad) shares online access to any Mac, iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch without entering the Personal Hotspot password.
First, verify that the iOS device that you want to use as an access point is connected to iCloud with the same Apple ID as the Mac or iOS device that you want to provide Internet access to. Each device must have Bluetooth and Wi-Fi enabled.
Instant Hotspot requires the following:
- An iPhone 5 or later with OS 8.1 or later
- An iPad (4th generation and later)
- iPad Pro, iPad Air, or iPad Mini (all models)
- You can use Instant Hotspot to connect to older devices running at least iOS 8, as well as an iPod touch (5th generation) or newer. Macs with OS X Yosemite or later are also supported.
Can a Verizon Mobile Hotspot Plan Replace Your Home Internet?
Many consumers living in rural areas may find it attractive if they have limited access to internet connectivity.
Two factors come into play: How much do you want to do online, and how fast do you want to do it? If you use your internet for light to moderate applications, such as reading email, streaming music, and watching certain YouTube videos, a mobile hotspot plan may be for you.
If you use it for heavy tasks like video conferencing, 4K, or HD movie streaming, it won’t be enough to replace your home internet.
When Verizon says an “unlimited” plan, they are not referring to the access point’s data usage. Unlimited plans have a data limit, and after reaching it, you will find that the connection speed is very slow or you will have to buy more data in blocks.
If the signal from your cordless phone at home is weak or unreliable, you may not be satisfied with the performance of the access point; they use the same signal.
Data usage with Personal Hotspot
Personal Hotspot uses data from your iPhone data plan. Unless you have an unlimited plan, your monthly data allowance can be quickly used up when streaming video or performing other bandwidth-intensive tasks.
All data used by devices connected to your iPhone is included in your data plan, so be careful if your data plan is small.
