How To Use Wireless Headphones With a Guitar Amp

If you are a musician living in an apartment with roommates, being able to play your electric guitar through wireless headphones is a must.

Fortunately, with today’s technology, there are many practical ways to enjoy your jam sessions without disturbing the peace.

In this article, you will learn the best ways to listen to your guitar through wireless headphones.

I hope you never hear noise complaints again after reading this.

Understanding guitar amps

In this section, I want to go into a little more detail about each type of amp and expand on some of your options for using headphones. The first question you should ask yourself is quite simple and clear:

It will always be labeled “headphones” or “phones” and can be on the front or rear of the amplifier. Most solid-state amps, like Line 6 shown above, will have a headphone output.

Many of these will be eight-inch connectors. Of course, this is the simplest solution.

If your amp has a dedicated headphone output, you’re good to go.

Just plug in your headphones and play.

However, this feature can only be found in solid-state amps or preamps and is more difficult to implement in a tube amp setup.

If you have a tube amp or just an amp without a dedicated headphone output, you can still get it to work. It will just take a little more equipment and setup time. Based on the quick summary I’ve already provided, I’ll go over the details of how I do it.

Motivational “room amp” tone

For most of us, playing the guitar with headphones on is essential so as not to disturb others. Unfortunately, they lack the depth and presence of a true amp that sounds in a real room, resulting in an unsatisfactory experience.

The Waza-Air changes all that, bringing back the natural dimension, resonance, and “moving air” that has been lost with traditional phones. A built-in gyro sensor tracks your head movements as you play, powering sophisticated 3D algorithms that deliver the spatial realism to believe. And everything is done automatically, so all you have to do is plug it in and go.

Best Guitar Amp Wrapped Headphones

When it comes to choosing the best guitar amp headphones for you, there is no one size fits all. To find the best headphones, you need to consider the type of music you’re playing, where you’re likely to play, and the expected length of the playing session.

Every guitarist will be looking for headphones that suit his lifestyle. From classical guitars to electric guitars and everything in between, you need to know whether you need good highs, mids, or lows for your amp. Be mindful of bass response, and treble also makes a huge difference for long and satisfying listening sessions.

Finding the right headphone guitar amp can take some time, but it’s definitely worth it if you’re looking for the right set for your playing and listening needs. Whether you’re looking for Bluetooth headphones on the go, beautiful headphones for use on stage, or monitoring headphones with long cables for studio use, there’s a pair for you.

Before Choosing a Headphone Solution

Guitars don’t put enough voltage to power speakers or headphones. Even if your guitar has active pickups, you need an external amplifier to boost your signal. And all the tools and products in this article do essentially that. They amplify your guitar signal and give you a slot to plug in your headphones.

Very easy, isn’t it? But as with anything guitar-related, there is a lot to consider before spending your money. The key things we’ll look at here are tone, convenience, and cost.

Tone can be the big issue here, as it’s hard to get an “amp-like” tone without using a real guitar amp. For example, you can play your guitar through an old A/V receiver, but it will sound like an idiot because A/V receivers are not made to sound like guitar amps. The magic just isn’t there.

For this article, we’re only looking for devices that mimic the sound of a real amp. We’re not going to look at the A/V receiver. But you need to consider things like musical style and influences before taking out your wallet.

One last note: We include audio interfaces in this article because, when paired with the right software, they are super modifiable and can provide amazing ‘amp’ tones. But that doesn’t mean you have to use amp modeling software with the interface. Direct interface sound is popular right now, thanks to artists like Steve Lacey. This sound has its roots in Motown and bands like Chic, and in my experience, it forces you to play with more precision.

With today’s advancements and different varieties, you will find many products to find what you are looking for. Here are some criteria that can help you choose the best guitar amp headphones:

If you also want to use your new headphones with mobile phones and laptops, buy a 1/4-inch headphone adapter with a 1/8-inch (3.5mm) jack and an amplifier.

Choose an impedance greater than 35 ohms.

The closed layout is my personal suggestion for a full practice dive.

Consider purchasing noise-canceling headphones to avoid distractions.
