What does the badge app icon mean?

This question can be difficult to answer because the app icon badge appears for different reasons in different situations and each app uses it differently.

The Insignia app icon in the Mail or Messages app means you have unread emails or messages, while the Insignia app icon in the Settings app means you have an iOS update available.

If you choose to disable the Allow notifications option at the top of an application’s notification menu, any type of notification that the application may generate will be disabled.

There is no way to disable or enable the app icon badge all at once. You will need to adjust the settings for each different app on your iPhone separately.

However, since those notification badges are not used by all apps, you may find it quite easy to set an app icon badge option for each app where you don’t want it.

No badges available

Sometimes you might think that the badges for an app are not working when that particular app doesn’t offer them.

Going to the “Settings” menu on the iPhone and selecting “Notifications” displays a full list of applications where alerts and badges are available. If an application is not on the list, it was not designed to use credential claims.

Push configuration

Nudging is the process by which your iPhone detects new information in your apps or email accounts. When you download an application for the first time, you will be asked if you want to allow that application to use push notifications.

If you choose not to, badges may sometimes not appear even if you enable them in the “Settings” menu on the iPhone. To enable Push, go to your app’s Settings menu, or delete the app and then re-sync it from your iTunes backup to the phone and re-enable Push when prompted.
